2015 Nepal Earthquake Relief Fund

Nepal Earthquake Relief Fund

August 1, 2015

MassBad is proud to report that a total of $6,376 was received in donations from individuals and clubs here in Massachusetts which we have forwarded to the Kailali District Badminton Association (KDBA) in Nepal to be used for helping rebuild after the devastating earthquakes there this past spring.  KDBA is the home association of Pashupati Paneru who has lived, competed and coached in Massachusetts for the past 6 years, becoming good friends with so many of us.  Our respect for Pashu and concerns for his family and country led us to embark on this charitable mission.  With Pashu’s help we were able to establish a supportive relationship with KDBA who accepted our donation and coordinated with the national relief organization to help there.  Mahesh Shah, president of KDBA, has committed to following up on its usage and keep us posted with progress.

While these initial funds have necessarily been coordinated through the national relief efforts in order to properly control their use, we are hoping that we can direct future funding through KDBA to more specific badminton development activities there as Nepal moves beyond emergency reconstruction to reestablish normal health and recreation capabilities.

Thank you to the following clubs and their members for their support for Nepal!

Boston Badminton Club                  $3,416

Maugus Club                                    $2,210

Marblehead Youth Badminton       $  675

MassBad – individual donors         $    75
